Summary

Calico cap in plain cream colour, machine-sewn. Used in Victoria. It belonged to donor's grandmother (Mrs H.M. Lanyon), a Victorian teacher's wife. It therefore probably dates to the late 19th century.

Significance

Further information:

A 'Mrs H.M. Lanyon' (Hannah Lanyon) was cited as next of kin for Vernon Clifford Lanyon, who enlisted as a soldier in World War I in 1915, and was killed at Gallipoli. It is unknown if this is the same Mrs Lanyon. Vernon's mother lived at that time at Grange, South Australia.

A notice in The Argus, 9 April 1927, p.17, announced the marriage at the Box Hill Methodist Church of the daughter of Mr & Mrs H.M. Lanyon, of 37 Harrow St, Box Hill, to a Mr Blainey.
