Lace dickie and collar of the same design, used in Broadmeadows, Victoria. They were donated to the Museum in 1989 with several other pieces from various sources, described simply as 'early lace'. The dickie and collar are provisionally dated circa 1840-1900, but further research is required.
This lace was examined by Mrs June Stringer, lace expert from the Embroiderers' Guild, circa 1987, when it was identified as 'Continuous lace, ground uncommon, waterlily design not typical of anything, possibly Flemish (or may be Bedfordshire?)'.
