Summary

This t-shirt was produced in 1990 as part of the Womens Multi Media Project - a series of workshops and training provided to women in the International Women's Day Collective and the Victorian Childcare Action Group. Workshops were hosted by Redletter Press in association with the Victorian Womens's Trust.

The screenprint design for the t-shirt was created by Redletter community artist Vicki McConville in collaboration with the women's groups. The image of women and children appeared on a poster for International Women's Day events and was reduced and printed to the t-shirt designs. A half hour radio programme on the theme 'Organise', two radio advertisements and a poster were also produced as part of this project. The poster and ads were to publicise an International Women's Day dance and march, and the t-shirt was designed for sale as fundraising and awareness.

The idea was to train women's rights groups in different methods of production for campaign material - namely graphic and computer design, screenprinting and audio production. One of the aims was "To assist women's groups to strengthen their impact and scope, and to more effectively raise awareness of the social, political and economic inequality experienced by women." The whole project came in within the budget of $16, 850, with funding coming via the Womens Trust from the Victorian Ministry of Arts.
