Summary
Pair of side mats embroidered with a traditional Lefkas design, made circa 1970s. They were most likely given to Irene Soumilas as a gift either sent over by friends or relatives from Greece or brought with them when they visited. Irene migrated to Australia from the Greek Island of Lefkas in 1958 at the age of 19 to be married in 1959. Her dowry travelled in two trunks by ship, although she travelled by air.
Physical Description
Pair of rectangular side mats each with an embroidered floral design in green, orange, white and gold on a neutral background. There is gold thread fringing on the two shorter sides of the mat.
