Summary
Dress of soft blue cotton velvet, V-necked, long-sleeved, dropwaisted. Used circa 1920-1930. Belonged to Betty Anderson of Kew.
Betty (Elizabeth) was the daughter of James Caldwell Anderson and Mary Lloyd Anderson, and grand-daughter of renowned architect Lloyd Tayler. Born in 1889, Betty was one of four siblings, all of whom she outlived. The family lived at 'Mynda', 5 Molesworth Street, Kew, Melbourne. Betty served in the Red Cross during World War I, although details are confined to a nurse's apron and a photograph. She never married, and lived to the age of 92, passing away in 1982.
Physical Description
Dress of pale blue cotton velvet. Dress is long-sleeved and has a dropped waist. Bodice front has v-shape and diamond-shape panels and four graduated velvet bows with beige silk lining. Bodice is lined with blue silk. Front bodice shoulder and chest darts. Bodice back has two shaping darts. V-shaped neckline with beige silk v-shaped insert. Set-in sleeves have opening with two press studs at wrist and four narrow tucks on opposite side to opening. Flared four-gore skirt with centre front narrow v-shape panel tapering to hem.
