Summary
Dress of pale grey striped silk with cotton lining, circa 1850. FTIR analysis of the fabric and lining confirmed that the fabric is silk. XRF analysis of the silk confirmed that it is unweighted.
Formerly part of the Bayside City Council clothing and textiles collection; earlier provenance is unknown.
Physical Description
Pale grey striped silk dress with long sleeves. High v-shaped neckline; full skirt gathered into pointed bodice. Fabric gathered from shoulders to narrow panel of smocking at waist, fringed at edge. Fringing also on sleeves. Hooks and eyes down back to waist. Cotton lining. A combination of machine and hand manufacture.
