Summary
Pair of wooden clogs painted in green and terracotta with cream edging and various floral motifs in the Hindeloopen style. Made by Yoka Van Den Brink in 1994.
Hindeloopen craft techniques date back to the 16th century, to the port of Hindeloopen, in Friesland in the North of Holland where sailors developed a decorative tradition of handpainting domestic items to add colour to the dark houses through winter. Motifs include flowers, scrolls, buds, birds and sometimes bible scenes and landscapes. The clogs are painted in 'Sunday colours', that is, on a dark green background.
Physical Description
Pair of wooden clogs painted in green and terracotta with cream edging and various floral motifs in the Hindeloopen style. The inside of the clogs is also painted green. The soles have been signed by the painter.
