Sodium Amylobarbitone from a Victorian mental hospital. Sodium amylobarbitone is a barbiturate, used as a sedative and, in higher doses, as an hypnotic. It induces a prolonged sleep - narcosis - and was used to sedate patients as a form of restraint. The treatment was commonly called 'sleeping away one's troubles.' Another name for this drug may be Sodium Ametal. It is an example of pharmaceuticals used in a psychiatric hospital in Victoria, Australia.
Physical Description
Small, flat, clear plastic box containing the drug sodium amylobarbitone. Box has rounded front corners and labels - 90 sodium amylobarbitone, gr. 1.1/2 - under clear top and bottom. Contains lead pieces.
