Brown apothecary jar containing carbolic acid from pharmacy at mental health hospital, Victoria, Australia, circa 1890. Carbolic acid (phenol) was used as an antibacterial disinfectant.
Physical Description
Brown glass apothecary's jar has concave oval base, straight sides, rounded shoulders and shortish, narrow neck with protruding rim. Cork or stopper is missing. Has printed paper label - acid. carbol. - glued on side. Jar is empty. Brown residue in base.
