Summary
Net needle brought to Australia by Giovanna Tenace when she immigrated from Italy in 1939. In Italy Giovanna had worked making fishing nets since the age of ten and expected to continue this work in Australia. However she found work on a farm and this net needle, a ball of cotton and completed fishing net became mementoes of her former life.
Physical Description
Grey tubular metal needle with an elongated claw on each end. Wrapped around the needle, between each claw, is a length of off-white thick cotton thread.
