The MCIE was open from 1 August 1888 to 31 January 1889.

Printed on obverse in gold: Melbourne,/7th August 1888./Sir,/In forwarding you the enclosed invitation/for the Concert to be given on Thursday/Evening, the 16th inst., I have the honor, by direction of the Executive Vice President to re quest/that you will kindly intimate, not later than the/12th inst., whether you will be present. I am further directed to point out that all/invitations not acknowledged by the 12th inst. will be considered as declined.[...ext.text] The reply date of the 12th inst. is handwritten on the letter and originally read the 10th.
