Tincture press used for making extracts of herbs, vegetables or fruit in a mental health hospital, Victoria, circa 1900.

Physical Description

Press for vegetable matter has flat, oblong, cast-iron base on 4 outward slanting legs. Has small hole in centre. On it sits round straight-sided iron container with hole and small funnel (stick through hole in base) in bottom. Container has perforated tin lining and perforated brass, false bottom. Cast- iron lid-shaped weight fits inside container on top of material being pressed. 2 legs on top of base support large screw with horizontal handle. End of screw fits into circular groove in middle of weight forcing it down and pressing material. Juice runs out funnel underneath.
