Summary
Wood and metal brown painted trunk used by Agnes Karlik and her father when they immigrated to Australia from Hungary in 1950 on the Anna Salen. The trunk was purchased in Germany when they knew how much luggage they were allowed to bring with them. It held all of their belongings except for Agnes' father's movie camera. They first settled in Fremantle before moving to Melbourne.
In 1965 Agnes' father returned to Hungary, taking the trunk with him. However he realised that he could no longer live behind the Iron Curtain and so returned to Australia, bringing the trunk back with him.
Physical Description
Brown painted wooden trunk with strips of metal to reinforce it. There is a latch on the front with a key hole and two clasps. The trunk has been cut and torn on various occasions by officials checking for contraband items.
