Physical Description
Hand-operated bread slicing machine is long, thin metal structure on 4 bowed legs. Consists of long flat trough (for loaf) with circular blade, in flat, circular, metal housing at one end, and large turning wheel with wooden handle attached to rim at the other. Wheel attaches to blade via several cogs and axle running parallel to trough. A flat, spiked plate pushes the loaf along trough to blade. This is connected to second rod, parallel to blade one and also connecting via cogs to wheel. Plate has double wooden handles protruding above it. There is a hinged shute (extension of trough) leading out from far side of blade.
