Summary
Booklet titled 'Australia: A Guide for New Australians' published by the National Bank of Australasia and printed by D G Lusty & Sons Ltd, London, circa 1955.
It was given to Ron and Joan Booth as part of a collection of promotional material when they were arranging to migrate to Australia. The Booth family, Ronald, Joan and their two children Ronald and Martin, migrated to Australia in 1956 under the assisted passage scheme. They left London on 18 May aboard the Strathaird and arrived in Australia in June. When they arrived in Melbourne they were taken to the migrant centre at the Royal Exhibition Building for processing and were then sent to the Brooklyn Hostel. They found Australia to be very different to how it was described in all the promotional literature they had been given in England, however they were made to feel very welcome.
