Physical Description
Hand coloured lithograph of exterior of Exhibition Buildings circa 1888 mounted in a frame of heavy cream card. Extract from The Australasian, 4 August 1888. Print shows an aerial view of Exhibition Building and gardens at the time of the 1888 Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition, looking from the south-west. The permanent buildings are in the foreground, and the temporary annexes erected for the Exhibition are to the rear. The suburb of Carlton stretches away in the background. People are walking in the gardens and along the streets. Horse-drawn vehicles move along Rathdowne Street. Hochgurtel's Fountain (German Fountain) is in the foreground of the print. Principal colours used are greens, yellows & blues. The print is signed by the artist in the lower left corner. (illegible)
