Daniel J. Mahony was a petrologist who had worked at the Victorian Mines Department before becoming Director of the National Museum in 1931. His main interest was in developing the research side of the Museum's activities, and he revitalised the Museum Memoirs. The institution made efforts to secure additional government funding during his leadership, with limited success.
Description of Content
Man in a tweed suit with a waistcoat at a desk with a collection of boxed scientific specimens - perhaps fossils or mammal bones. He is shown examining a specimen through a magnifying glass.
Physical Description
Photograph originally mounted in a wide border of cream board, and framed in a plain wooden frame. There is no glass in the frame. Handwritten inscription on legend at base of the photograph.
