Summary

This is a colour postcard of the Exhibition Building and Botanical Gardens, Melbourne, showing a black & white photograph of the south eastern facade of the Exhibition Building, circa 1900. The postcard, which is unused, was made by E Whitehead & Co., Melbourne.

Although the card contains no date or postmark, it was most likely produced prior to 1902. The division of the reverse of the postcard, allowing a message to be written on one half and the address on the other, was not permitted in Britain until 1902 and Australia until 1905.

Physical Description

A postcard featuring two black & white photographs, one of the Botanical Gardens, Melbourne and one of the south eastern facade of the Exhibition Building, Melbourne. Each image is surrounded by two borders, the first is pink and the second is brown. In the top right hand corner of the card is the title 'Souvenir from Australia'. On the reverse of the card there is space to write an address and to place a stamp. The card is unused.
