Summary
This is a sepia coloured postcard of the southern facade of the Exhibition Building with the lake in the foreground, circa 1907. The card, which was printed as part of the Victoria Stamp Market (VSM) Series, was sent to Miss May McClure of Cobden and is postmarked 6 July 1907.
The postcard shows flags flying atop the Exhibition Building and the obelisk under construction at the left of the image. These features indicate that the photograph was taken during the Melbourne International Exhibition, 1880-1881. However, the postcard was probably not produced until after 1905, which is the earliest date of any VSM Series postcards of the Exhibition Building held by Museum Victoria. The VSM Series was published in Melbourne between 1905 & 1908.
The division of the reverse of the postcard, allowing a message to be written on one half and the address on the other, was not permitted in Australia until 1905.

Flags from a variety of nations line the walkway between the building and the lake. A wide border surrounds the sepia photograph. On the reverse of the card there is a handwritten address and message in black ink. In the upper right hand corner there is an orange, one penny Victorian postage stamp.
