Black & white postcard of the southern facade of the Exhibition Building featuring an advertisement for the Aquarium in 1900. The postcard has a small black and white photograph surrounded by an extensive handwritten inscription written aboard RMSS Victoria while docked in Melbourne. The inscription is dated 12 Dec 1900. The postcard was sent to Mrs AB Youngman, Buxton House, Earls Colue (?), Essex, England.
The Aquarium opened in the north eastern annexe of the Exhibition Building on 24 February 1885.
Physical Description
A black & white photograph of the southern facade of the Exhibition Building showing the lake and gardens. The photograph, which takes up approximately one third of the obverse, is surrounded by an extensive handwritten message in black ink. On the reverse of the postcard is a handwritten address with a Sydney postmark dated 17 December 1900.

Melbourne harbour - 12 Dec 1900/ we have just ashored here/ for a day, then Sydney in 2 days more we hope/ Lucy Coluupa (?) & J C Rindy/ came on board at Adelaide/ for an hour or so; looking/ (?) wow - it was so/ nice to see her again/ many passengers go/ off here - it is slow &/ draining a little - & it/ (?) do to go ashore/ the childrens colds are/ still heavy. too long/ to know how you all/ are. u must try & write/ & Lucy must - its not east/ to write much on/ board with the children/ Lord Hopetoun left me/ at Adelaide in the warship Royal (?); he is still ill & weak. We hope to/ reach home tomorrow week if all is well. we/ are unloading a quantity of tea from Ceylon - for all Australian ports/ & silk from Marseilles. The "Orurz" (?) is in port she ran into/ the (?) yesterday and damaged herself a good bit; she/ should leave Adelaide tomorrow with homeward mails/ but will have to lay up for repairs a day or so - i must get/ some packing hone while we are still away - dear love to all/ yours always, E.S.P; (?) love to children & all Reverse, handwritten: Mrs A.
