Summary
This is a colour postcard of the southern facade of the Exhibition Building with the lake in the foreground, circa 1908. The card, which was printed as part of the Victoria Stamp Market (VSM) Series, was sent to Mrs Hines, 5 James St, Battery Place, Hobart, Tasmania and is postmarked 1908.
The postcard shows flags flying atop the Exhibition Building and the obelisk under construction at the left of the image. These features indicate that the photograph was taken during the Melbourne International Exhibition, 1880-1881. However, the postcard was probably not produced until after 1905, which is the earliest date of any VSM Series postcards of the Exhibition Building held by Museum Victoria. The VSM Series was published in Melbourne between 1905 & 1908.
The division of the reverse of the postcard, allowing a message to be written on one half and the address on the other, was not permitted in Australia until 1905.
Physical Description

In the upper right hand corner there is an orange Tasmanian postage stamp depicting Mount Wellington. The postmark is Launceston, 4 August 1908.
