Label and price tag for a mosaic created by L Tarantoni of Rome, exhibited by the agent for the Italian Court Olivieri e Sarfatti at the Melbourne International Exhibition (MIE), 1 October 1880 - 30 April 1881.
This very rare piece of exhibition ephemera (found under the floorboards of the Exhibition Building in the mid-1980s) offers an insight into the incredible value of many of the objects exhibited. 120 pounds in 1880 roughly equates to 5800 pounds ($11,000) at 2015 values.
Physical Description
Black print on buff coloured card. Thin black border of 2 lines with a decorative motif in each corner. Printed text in Italian and handwritten text in English. Tag is torn into three separate pieces.
