Summary

Bronze Statue titled 'Mary & Child' made by Leopoldine Mimovich, circa 1992. Leopoldine Mimovich is a sculptor and painter. She was born in the South Tyrol district of Austria (now Italy) and migrated to Australia in 1949. She had studied sculpting in Vienna and in Hallstatt and continued to sculpt in Australia. Her work explores mainly Christian themes and she has gained widespread recognition for her work within the Australian Christian community.

Physical Description

Bronze cast sculpture of female figure and baby. The figures are elongated and very stylised. The female figure, stands sideways with head turned to the viewer. Her arms are outstretched and merge into those of the baby whom she appears to be swinging. The sculpture utilises many flowing directional lines, typical of the style of the artist, Leopoldine Mimovich. The feet of the female figure merge into the oval bronze base.
