Summary
A cast iron flat iron used in the laundry of a mental health hospital in Victoria Australia circa 1900.
Physical Description
Flat iron is a long narrow block of cast iron, 8cm high. It is square at the back and curves into a blunt point in front. Sides are straight except at the front, which slopes backward toward the top. A join between the sides and the top slopes in 3 shallow steps. Iron has a heavy crown- shaped wrought-iron handle, reaching the length of the iron and with spiralled twist in centre. A large crack runs across base and up both sides. Iron is outrageously heavy!
