Summary

Mechanical Toy Horse manufactured by Modern Toys in Japan, circa 1940s. It was purchased as stock for donor's father's general store at Palmerston, South Island, New Zealand. It was later given to the donor's brother, who was born in 1946. It was brought to Australia by the family when they emigrated from New Zealand in 1960.

Physical Description

Metal toy horse covered in brown fur fabric with moveable legs and tail, operated by metal wind-up key. Painted celluloid cowboy sits on yellow saddle holding reins, with movable arms. When horse is wound up, legs and tail move as if it is running. Key is detachable. There are metal stirrups on the horse. The cowboy wears a pink hat, red shirt with yellow neck-tie, blue trousers, deep red boots and carries a pistol.
