The Snowy Hydro-Electric Scheme is one of the most significance engineering projects undertaken in Australia and an important migrant workforce employer during the early decades of the post-World War II migration era. Two-thirds of workers were migrants (the rest already Australian citizens), and the Snowy Scheme is still considered Australia's largest engineering infrastructure undertaking (1949-1974). The site changed its name to Snowy Hydro Ltd in 2001.
