Summary

Five painted plaster panels that made up the background of the Grey Kangaroo Diorama in McCoy Hall at the Russell Street campus of the Museum from 1940 until they were dismantled in preparation for the closure and transfer of the collection to the new location in the Carlton Gardens. The background represents an area in Loch Ard Gorge which was selected during fieldwork researching the diorama. It was painted by George Browning an award winning graduate of the National Art School who went on to become the well-known diorama artist responsible for the dioramas at the National War Memorial in Canberrra.
