Alternative Name(s): Trunk; Glory Box; Hope chest

Large wooden chest, one of two which were originally made for Carmel Tata's mother Dominica Tripodi (born in 1923) as a glory box. Dominica lived on the family olive farm near the small town of Sinopoli in Calabria. The chest was constructed using wood from walnut trees on the family's property in Italy. One Dominica filled with her own goods and linen which had belonged to her mother before marrying in 1946. Carmel's mother brought the chest with her to Australia when she migrated, along with two other large trunks of belongings. This trunk she filled over time for her daughter Carmel, in Italy and Australia. Carmel married a Sicilian boy in Melbourne in 1978.
