Patent documentation dated 1919 and filed in 1924 for driving and controlling mechanisms for washing machines appear to show similar mechanisms to that seen on Museums Victoria's washing machine.

Physical Description

Electric washing machine, rocker action. Washing compartment is a copper barrel, mounted on a grey painted metal frame on castors. Frame has perforated metal panels front and back. Copper barrel has opening hatch with handle at top. At top, frame supports wringer with rubber rollers. Electric cord and switches are on left side.
