Summary
Alternative Name(s): Coin Case
Clear plastic boomerang-shaped coin holder designed to hold seven decimal currency coins. The holder features the head of an Aboriginal man holding a boomerang.
Made for issue in 1966, it was purchased by the donor but was never used. It was found in her garage while she was having a clean-out after the death of her elderly mother in August 1993.
Money holders such as these were used for the new decimal currency coins introduced in Australia 14 February 1966. Not all coin denominations were in circulation at that time with some being circulated after this date. Some of the coins have since changed shape or been withdrawn from circulation.
