Summary
Alternative Name(s): character doll
A caricature of former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, manufactured by Tobhar, circa 1980. Malcolm Fraser came to power in 1975 following the dismissal of the Whitlam Labour government. He won three elections as leader of the Liberal party. In 1983 he lost to labour leader Bob Hawke. These toys were officially sold as pin cushions and came with a small packet of pins to stick into the toy. There was also a Bob Hawke pin cushion with Bill Hayden positioned between his legs.
Physical Description
Small soft doll, printed in brown on fawn cloth, representing Malcolm Fraser, who was Prime Minister of Australia from 1975 to 1983. The doll is a caricature of Mr Fraser, emphasising his long nose. It may have been manufactured as a "voodoo doll", reflecting Fraser's unpopularity at the time of the sacking of the Whitlam Labor government in November 1975. The doll is sewn together, stuffed with a soft stuffing, and is marked on the material at the back "hand-printed in Australia/ by TOBHAR".
