Summary

Sponge forceps, also known as sponge-holding forceps, are used in surgical procedures, but especially those that are gynecological. They may be straight or curved and have smooth or serrated jaws. The jaws are rounded and provide an atraumatic grip. They were used at Mont Park Mental Hospital, Bundoora, Victoria, Australia circa 1912-1950.

Physical Description

Sponge-holding forceps are scissor-shaped forceps with curved blades, ratchet and screw joint. The opening near the screw joint has two ring shapes serrated on the inside to hold sponges.
