Summary

Made: Mayer & Meltzer, Surgical Instrument Makers, circa 1848 - 1950. Used in a mental health hospital in Victoria for determining sugar in urine. Especially in the diagnosis of diabetes.

Physical Description

Saccharometer consists of a long, 1.5cm diameter tube, closed at 1 end and divided into 2 openings at the other. One is short, tapered nozzle and the other a short, tubular neck. Has measures marked down side. Also 18cm. long test tube, marked with measures on side, a smaller, flat-ended test tube, marked with measures, and a brass detachable handle consisting of horizontal slit ring attached to slightly smaller vertical slit ring.
