Summary
Used for forceps delivery of babies at Mont Park Mental Hospital, Bundoora, Victoria, Australia, circa 1912 - 1950
Physical Description
one blade only (usually come as a pair). It is long, lopsided, metal loop on a shaft that has a semi-circular curve near the bottom to allow the user to insert a finger for extra traction. Where it swells into the wider handle there is a deep oblong groove, where the second blade would lock into place. The 2 blades are separate so that they may be inserted one at a time. Handle is flat on the inside and rounded in deep finger grips on the other. At the top of the handle a horn-shaped fingerhold protrudes.
