Summary
Used for holding back the edges of an incision or wound. Used in the surgery of a Victorian mental health hospital, circa 1930.
Physical Description
Wishbone shaped retractor. Has a round hinge linking 2 arms which curve out at the botton at right angle to the hinge movement, each ending in a tiny, open-sided cradle with ridged floor, which rotates on a screw. The retractor opens by turning a screw halfway up one arm, which links onto a notched arc between the 2 arms. A small lever above the screw releases an automatic lock.
