Summary
Alternative Name: Stick Pin.
Stock pin featuring a small gold nugget, likely Victorian made circa 1890. Nineteenth century gentlemens' neck wear was much wider in style than the current neck tie one finds today. To give the neck wear its volume and to keep it from falling out of shape or from falling out from the top of the waist coat, stock or stick pins were used; a fashion which began in the 18th century.
This stock pin was likely worn by a miner and illustrates the use of Australian motifes in colonial jewellery as local jewellers blended these with European craftsmanship to create a distinctly Australian style.
Physical Description
Gold stick pin with a small gold nugget at the end.
