Summary
Alternative Name: Stick Pin.
Stock pin featuring a small, irregular gold nugget, likely Victorian-made, circa 1890.
Nineteenth century gentlemens' neckwear was much more in style than the current neckties one finds today. To give the neckwear its volume and to keep it from falling out of shape, (or from falling out from the top of the waistcoat), stock or stick pins were used; a fashion which began in the 18th century.
This stock pin was likely worn by a miner and illustrates the use of Australian motifs in colonial jewellery as local jewellers blended these features with European craftsmanship to create a distinctly Australian style.
Physical Description
Gold stick pin with a small irregular gold nugget at the end.
