Summary

15 carat gold fob chain by George J. Jackson of Yarraville, with an elaborate gold fob from the Clunes Fete of 1887.
The fob features the scene of St George Slaying the Dragon.

George James Jackson was a well-known Melbourne jeweller in the late 19th-early 20th century. His wife, Alice, was also a jeweller.
Both George and Alice migrated from England before settling in Melbourne and raising their large family.

The Clunes Fete began as a two-day agricultural show held in the Clunes region, approximately 140 km north west of Mebourne. The origins of the fete date back to the mid 1850s, however, by the 1880s, it was organized by the Clunes and Talbot United Agricultural Society. The event was substantial, drawing over 1000 people to see its agricultural machinery displays, competitions, livestock displays, flower competition, stalls, and musical band.
The 162nd Annual Spring Show will be held in Clunes in 2025.
