Summary

Silver cigarette case made by a currently unidentified Australian silversmith, circa 1887.

The cigarette case is presented in a custom-made box, purveyed by Thomas Dougall of 37 Collins Street East, Melbourne. 'Albrecht' records this store only operating in 1887. The estate of Thomas Dougall, of this address, was broken up in June 1887.

The identity of the inscribed name, Dr Piercy, has not yet been confirmed. However, a Dr Piercy was operating at this time in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and worked at the Wagga Wagga Hospital.
