Wooden Mah-Jong set made by voluntary labour in 1936 at the Flinders Naval Depot for the use of the Social Club at the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind (R.V.I.B.)
This was the first mah-jong set made with Braille characters.
Physical Description
Wooden cabinet with two doors, 4 shallow drawers on the left and 2 small shallow drawers on the right. Top drawer has 40 pieces, of various colours (mostly blue) plastic material with metal tops with raised dots (Braille figures). 2nd drawer - 38 pieces; 3rd drawer - 33 pieces; 4th drawer - 19 pieces. Small top drawer on r. contains 8 pieces; bottom drawer - 58 small rectangular metal pieces with a hole at one end & raised dots on them.
