Rocking horse, made circa 1900-1914 and used in England. The rocking horse was donated to Museum Victoria in 1989 with a large collection of material, partly provenanced.
Physical Description
Wooden carved horse, mounted on metal supports on strong bench like base (for stability). Head carved with exaggerated detail. Remnants of mane and tail, made probably from woollen and hemp materials. No saddle or bridle, but "girth" around body. Rails on either side between front and back feet of horse for child to use in mounting, or while riding. Horse has been painted grey, with brown support. Obvious marks where legs and body have been joined.
