Stainless Steel X-Ray Cassette manufactured by Kodak, circa 1950. Used for medical imaging at Aradale Mental Hospital, Ararat, Victoria.
Physical Description
X-ray cassette is stainless steel tray with thick sides with rounded strip screwed on and with flat, black, plated, hinged lid, re-inforced by thick metal frame with criss-crossing diagonal bars and 2 swivelling shafts across centre which lock into catches on either side of base. Lid has leather strip handle and hinges. Lined with black felt onto which is glued a tungstate screen backing sheet (looks like heavy cardboard.) Similar sheet is glued to base. Between them lies green X-ray film. Cassette is in envelope-shaped green vinyl case.
