Summary
Branding Irons, circa 1940. The brands may have been made at Mayday Hills, a mental health hospital in Beechworth, Victoria. They were used for branding live-stock raised on the farm associated with the hospital.
Physical Description
Nine metal stock brands fastened together on a piece of wire. The brands are of numbers, roughly moulded, 1, 8, 7, 5, 3, 2, 9, 0, and 4. (Presumably 9 could also be used as 6). Used on the farm at Mayday Hills Hospital, Beechworth. The farm grew pigs and sheep as well as fruit and vegetables. There are traces of pink material (branding liquid?) on the ends of each brand.
