One of a pair of gold and opal shield design cufflinks made by Henry Newman, Melbourne, Victoria, circa 1900.
Henry Newman was one of the earliest jewellers in Melbourne, established in 1852. The company was actively involved in the early Australian pearling industry and opal mining industry, trading until 1912.
Physical Description
Gold shield shaped cufflink with centrally placed opal, en cabochon, in a starcut setting, chain to barbell toggle.
