Scissor Holder painted by Yoka Van Den Brink, 1993, using Hindeloopen techniques. Hindeloopen craft techniques date back to the 16th century, to the port of Hindeloopen, in Friesland in the North of Holland where sailors developed a decorative tradition of handpainting domestic items to add colour to the dark houses through winter. Motifs include flowers, scrolls, buds, birds and sometimes bible scenes and landscapes.

Physical Description

Ornately painted wooden scissor holder constructed from craft wood to hang on the wall like a plaque. Two adhesive patches are fixed to the back. The holder is painted blue with red edging and a floral motif in the Hindeloopen style. The item has been signed by the maker.
