Summary

Postcard depicting the RHMS Ellinis, issued by the Chandris Lines, circa 1960s-1970s.

The Ellinis was built in 1931 as the Lurline for the US Matson Line, she was used for the San Francisco to Honolulu service. Operating as a troop ship between 1942 and 1946, when she was completely refitted. She then re-entered the San Francisco to Los Angeles to Honolulu service in 1948 before being sold to Chandris Lines in 1963. Renamed Ellinis she was refitted with accommodation for 1,668-single class passengers. First used for the round-the-world service from Rotterdam to Sydney to Rotterdam, from 1975 onwards she was used for cruising only. She was scrapped in 1986.

Physical Description

Rectangular shaped, cardboard postcard; illustrated one side and contains printed information and a space for writing on the back. The front of the card is an painted illustrated image of an ocean liner, its bow faces left. The boat is white and long with 2 blue funnel ailerons. In the foreground is a calm, blue ocean; above the ship is a blue sky with a smattering of clouds. The reverse is unused and contains printed black text.
