Summary

Australian Home Journal sewing pattern for a woman's nightdress to fit size 34" bust, 29" waist, and 38" hip. The nightdress bodice features a button placket, pointed collar and bishop sleeves with a ruffle at the cuff. The shirt has a front yoke which extends to the waistline at centre front, is embroidered, and trimmed with a ruffle. The shirt is gathered into this yoke above the bust on either side. The a-line skirt ties at the back waist.

This pattern was published in the May 1951 issue of Australian Home Journal, but may have been printed in other issues also. To buy this pattern, a customer sent postal notes for payment back to the Australian Home Journal office with the size they required, and their pattern would be posted out to them.

Physical Description

Brown paper envelope with front cover showing line drawing of front and back views of sewing pattern enclosed. On the right side of the envelope the pattern schematic has also been printed, underneath the pattern number. Normally the business name would also have been printed down the centre of the envelope, but is missing in this case. The back of the envelope is printed with generic information about cutting and making-up Home Journal sewing patterns. The envelope has glued side and front seams and an unsealed envelope flap. This flap is crushed and torn in places.
