The Adelaide branch of the SPCA was formed in 1875 soon after the establishment of the first branch in Victoria in 1871. The Adelaide branch received royal patronage in 1937 when the King granted the use of the prefix 'Royal' allowing the society to use the name it still has today, the RSPCA.

Round metal badge in gold colour. Pin at back fits into ring. Raised centre with letters. Words in border. Maker's marks on back.
