Cotton cap padded with kapok used in a mental health hospital in Victoria, Australia, circa 1900. Padded caps were used by patients to minimise head injuries, particularly when they experienced epileptic seizures.
Physical Description
Double layered cap made with strong cotton as outer lining and wool as inner lining; kapok for padding and cotton strap band on top and both sides. Rougly repaired (?) with black machine stitch around lower edge.
