Made in Flinders Street, Melbourne by Lincoln, Stuart & Co. Ltd, circa 1908.
Physical Description
Oval-shaped straw boater with hatband. Sailor style, Swiss straw hood, shaped by heating, placed onto block and pressed, stiffened by Sizing (glue used in millinery). The 6cm brim is stiff. There is a wide black ribbon adhered around the crown with a flat black bow on one side. The inner crown has a layer of cream-coloured netting. There is a brown padded strip attached to the netting in the centre of the crown. The inner hatband is a tan leather band, joined by two stitches and a tan coloured bow at the back.
